As expected, Collingwood native and former Barrie Colts ‘AAA’ defenceman Tyler MacArthur has joined the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Charlottetown Islanders.

In his first game with the Isles, a 3-2 shootout win at home over the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies on Friday night, the 19-year-old had a plus-1 rating and picked up a two-minute hooking penalty in the second period.

The Ontario Hockey League’s Owen Sound Attack recently announced they had waived the six-foot-four, 195-pound blue-liner, who had suited up for 198 regular-season games, tallying four goals and 27 assists to go along with 236 penalty minutes and a combined minus-13 rating over four seasons.

The Islanders were scheduled to host the Val-d’Or Huskies on Saturday, but the game was postponed due to mechanical problems visiting team’s plane.

Charlottetown’s next game is Wednesday night in Shawinigan against the Cataractes.

The Islanders roster includes Ottawa Senators second-round pick Filip Chlapik at centre and Vancouver Canucks third-round pick Guillaume Brisebois on defence.

MacArthur, who had served as Owen Sound’s alternate captain for two seasons, was the Attack’s second- round pick in the 2013 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection.
